The onset of winter with snowfall was responsible for 16 traffic accidents on the roads in the district of kitzingen on sunday. According to the police report, two road users were seriously injured and six others were slightly injured. The slope between volkach and gaibach was particularly icy. After an accident there, the road had to be completely closed for several hours until the gritting service made the road passable again. Initial estimates put the total damage caused by the accidents on sunday at over 120,000 euros.
Control lost
The series of accidents started on sunday afternoon on the road between wiesenbronn and toboggan lake. A 22-year-old driver lost control of his fiesta on a left-hand bend in slippery snow and skidded into the left ditch. All three passengers suffered minor injuries, the damage amounts to 2500 euros.
Shortly before entering buchbrunn, a 25-year-old woman skidded on a right-hand bend and lost control of the vehicle. It skidded off the road to the left into the ditch, overturned and came to rest on its roof. Both passengers were slightly injured, there was damage of 5000 euros.
A 22-year-old schoolboy skidded his fiat on a snow-slippery road against a bridge pillar on highway 8, at the height of the slip road to the A 7 freeway. The driver was seriously injured. Damage: 5000 euros.
Accident with three cars
A 37-year-old woman was driving up the incline from volkach in the direction of gaibach in late sunday afternoon. At the height of the commuter parking lot, she wanted to drive her mitsubishi illegally to the left onto the lot. An oncoming 28-year-old VW driver was unable to brake on the icy and snow-slippery road and skidded into the mitsubishi.
The VW passat was pushed to the left into oncoming traffic and collided with the BMW of a 64-year-old man. The passenger in the BMW was slightly injured. Total damage amounts to 43 000 euros. The road had to be closed for several hours due to the slippery surface and because of the recovery of the vehicles. The fire departments from volkach and gaibach were on the scene with 30 emergency personnel.
On the stretch between volkach and obervolkach, a 55-year-old man drove his minibus onto the right-hand shoulder on a snow-covered road this evening. He oversteered his vehicle, crashed into the crash barrier and then collided with the oncoming hyundai of a 22-year-old police officer. The latter suffered minor injuries. Damage: 15 500 euro.
Oncoming lane of traffic
On the state road from kitzingen in the direction of schwarzach, a 25-year-old soldier drove his car into the opposite lane because of slippery snow and touched the oncoming car of a 31-year-old man. Damage here: 10,000 euros.
In the marktstrabe in rudenhausen, the 46-year-old driver of a skoda crashed into the corner of a house in a left-hand bend due to slippery snow. The damage amounted to 6000 euros.
Only one winter accident was reported by the highway police: on sunday evening, a young female driver skidded on the A 3 near geiselwind on a slippery road and crashed into the crash barrier. Her two companions were injured in the accident and taken to hospital. The highway patrol estimates the damage at about 4500 euros. 15 firefighters of the fire department geiselwind were struggling with spilled fuel.
