This is the prediction of a study by the boston consulting group, which was presented by the consulting firm and the internet company google at the world economic forum (WEF) in davos.
"No company can afford to ignore this trend," said david dean, co-author of the study. "Go digital" is the mandatory motto for any company that wants to profit from the "dramatic worldwide transformation of the internet". The driving force is the foreseeable enormous increase of internet users all over the world from currently 1.9 billion to about 3 billion in the next four years.
In 2016, 45 percent of the world’s population will probably be online. According to the study, the popularity of mobile devices, especially smartphones, and the further spread of social networks are also making a significant contribution to this in the emerging markets. The expansion of the capacities of the internet and its worldwide spread proved to be an ever more "powerful source" of growth and had a lasting impact on economic life.
